Could I make a special request, please? 특별 요청을 드려도 될까요?
(Dialogue)
Waiter : Have you decided what you’d like to order?
Rita : Do you have gluten-free pasta? I can’t tolerate wheat.
waiter : that’s something you and the owner have in common. if you look closely, you’ll see “GF” next to several items. that stands for gluten-free.
Rita : would it be too much to ask to leave the fresh tomatoes off the Pasta Primavera? I’m also allergic to tomatoes.
Waiter : Not at all. and when we cook special requests, we always use a freshly washed pan.
Rita : Wonderful! you’ve really put me at ease about eating here.
실제로 미국에서 gluten-free 음식을 기대하기 어려워서, 집에서 먹는게 좋다는 선생님들의 말씀이 있었습니다. 요즘엔 한국 식당에도 gluten free 음식들이 있어서, 옵션이 늘어나고 있습니다.
* gluten-free : without any Gluten Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye and triticale
*Tolerate : when you can tolerate something, it means you can accept or eat something wihout getting upset or physically ill.
In this dialogue, it’s more like allergic food.
W: 무엇을 주문할지 결정하셨나요?
R : 글루텐이 없는 파스타가 있나요? 제가 밀을 소화하지 못해서요
W : 손님과 사장님은 공통점이 하나 있네요. 자세히 보시면, 몇가지 메뉴 옆에 ‘GF’라고 적혀 있는게 보이실거에요. 글루텐이 없다는 뜻이에요.
R : 파스타 프리마베라에서 토마토를 빼 달라고 부탁하면 실례가 될까요? 제가 토마토 알레르기도 있어서요.
W : 전혀요! 그리고 저희는 특별히 요청하신 요리를 할 때는 갓 씻은 냄비를 사용합니다.
R : 너무 좋네요! 덕분에 여기서 안심하고 식사할 수 있겠어요.
